“A REPUBLIC IF YOU CAN KEEP IT” REMEMBER THIS FROM HISTORY CLASS?

These words from Benjamin Franklin hold true now more than ever. At the end of the Constitutional Convention in 1787 he was asked by a lady “Well Doctor what have we got a republic or a monarch? A republic replied the doctor if you can keep it.”

A republic is very different from a democracy. In a democracy the majority can make laws while a republic only elected representatives can make the laws. In the Constitution the word democracy is never even mentioned. The Founders did not trust democracy. According to John Adams, “There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.”

Alexander Hamilton is quoted in Federalist 21, “The natural cure for an ill-administration, in a popular or representative constitution, is a change of men.” Our time is now to vote out all these crooks and elect constitutional conservatives so we can keep our great country alive, it seems now that we are on the brink of death. Just remember that each and every vote matters and that means yours!
